Hi,
Just wanted to reach out to the team and say thank you for all your hard work on developing the JS bindings.
I was mostly a C# developer for LOB apps and Web Apps using asp.net MVC, and WPF/Window Forms, but I have always been toying around with graphics and games development, a little while back I started to look into it again and was trying to decide what Framework I was going to pick to sharpen up my skills on game development.
Honestly game development in C# is a mess right now, which is a bummer for me, since that is the language I was more familiarized with, actually the whole .NET development is a mess, they have no real direction of where they are going for with the .Net framework, and they bring up new technologies and drop them the next year without regards of how much time and money the developers and clients have invested in learning and applying said technology.
I even switched from asp.net MVC to Node.js / Angularjs… and had to take a “dive head right in” javascript learning aproach since, pretty much anything that has to do with WEB/Mobile/business applications and what not, have something to do with javascript…
It was little rough at the beginning since it is such a different language, but now that I actually understand its methodology, I am looking for every opportunity I can think of to use it on my projects.
Anyways, I found libgdx framework that uses Java. which tks god is very similar to C#, I was taking a course on android development anyways, so I didn’t have such a bad time transitioning. I really like libgdx by the way.
Well, researching some libgdx stuff on the web, I suddenly started seeing some cocos2d-x posts here and there, but when I saw that I needed to learn C++ to work on it I was like… nahhhh.
So, it turns out that looking for a book about libgdx in amazon, I came across one called Cocos-JS and that sparked my interest,
I was like… multiplatform game development with javascript??? no way…
Well, now Cocos-JS it’s been taking all my development time, intallation was a piece of cake, and working with the framework is being a blast…, I already in the process porting some of my XNA and LibGDX projects to Cocos-JS as an exercise to learn the framework, and I am having a blast… now I can actually use all those hours I’ve put into Node.js, Angular, Jquery, Javascript, Electron and IONIC… in my game development… and that is awesome.
I had the feeling that JavaScript was going to be everywhere, but in multiplatform Game Development as well… wow.
Like I said, I was eyeing Cocos2d-X for a while, but learning yet another language after C#, Java, Javascript and Swift, was just too much since I wouldn’t have much use for it outside Cocos2d-X, but now with the JavaScript bindings, well that made me jump right in.
Hopefully the JavaScript binding are not too much slower that the C++ framework, but I am willing to sacrifice a little performance for much more productivity.
Sorry for the long post guys…
Tks for the great work of the Team, and looking forward to learn more from the forum.
