New to Cocos2-dx

Hello all! I’m brand new to computer programming, and from the videos I found online I finally installed Cocos2d-x and other software to make my Windows 8 computer compatible to run on Android devices. I’m downloading the C++ version.

Now what’s the next step for me? I’ve downloaded the Cocos2d-x manual and have other web sites that can teach me all about scenes, sprites, animations, etc. But what program, or what link should I click on to embark on my programming? In other words, where’s the “Microsoft Word” program that could let me type my words into it, my code? I’m itching to try out something!

Also, my second question: What programs would you recommend that could let me run my game on my Windows 8 computer? There was something of an Android or iOS phone simulator online?
Also, what are your thoughts on Visual Studio? Must I download it or not?

I still don’t get it. Do I start coding my game on Android Studio or Microsoft Visual Studio?

If you are using Android then VS is not needed. Use Android Studio, Eclipse or a text editor and the command-line.

If you are doing Windows or Windows Phone development, use VS.
