Who is RH company?
may be RedHat
Which is obvious not what you are doing, because you are generating revenues directly from cocos2d-x with using it directly ![]()
Yeah, I thought so.
I was referring to RedHat.
RedHat selling their OS license for allot of $$$$ .
Which is open source + professional services and allot of other tools and god knows what.
in my day job im developing with/in RedHat. (also with CentOS (which is RH fork ) when we want to save license fee )
But they are operating in Giant echo system which is not like Game developers echo system,
so i donât sure if you can compare .
Exactly! Professional services, not the OS itself.
For what do you pay exactly? Itâs NOT GNU/Linux, the OS. You are paying for support!
If you donât want to use the services/support, you can use RHEL for free or even use Fedora.
Their business model does not mention, that they are generating revenue from selling an OS license, because they distribute their source code for free. The fees are subscription fees for support, integration and non-free features.
Right. CentOS is basically just RHEL stripped of the non-free components.
RedHat Enterprise Linux - RedHat Copyrighted logos and materials = CentOS.
Why not? There exists the same ecosystem around a game engine: support, distribution and packaging, integration, training, certification and so on. Just like what RH does.
Imagine there is cocos2d-x and cocos2d-x Enterprise. The difference to the latter could maybe a certain feature, which you get by paying a license fee or support, SLAs or the like. It still is just a service. An ecosystem around cocos2d-x itself.
I mean the scale of the echo system and the type of costumers .
While the RedHat customers are mostly established enterprise companies and RedHat products are infrastructural .
And the professional support is critical . and companyâs will agree to pay good money to solve problems and open tickets.
This is not the case in the mobile game industry from what i know . if there are professional services need it is in small scale to much less companies .
Also if you have 2 - 3 good developers and open source engine like Cocos2d-x it is likely you could solve most of the problems on your own .
This is not the case with Enterprise development.
It is still in preview release, but it is good to take a look

Would be interested in this answer as well, did you check? Even on a high level an answer would be nice.
I did and basically we are entering the VR market and have working VR apps.
The key is: game engines has value, but doesnât make money by themselves. The licensing mode is out dated.
I have been successfully running some business around cocos2d-x/cocos game engine in China, including:
Currently I donât have a enough ability to spread these business to cocos2d-x users beyond China. While the company behind cocos2d-x, Chukong Technologies, performed very bad in 2015 but we still made more than $100M income from mobile game publishing, ads, game development inside China.
